COVID-19 Patient Protocol

To Gibb Orthodontics Patients and Parents,

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Gibb and the team at Gibb Orthodontics want to ensure the safety of our patients and staff at your upcoming visit.  The following is a guide to help prepare you for what to expect when you come in for your next orthodontic appointment.

What to Expect:

  • Appointments will be scheduled by phone or email only. We will not accept walk-ins to schedule appointments or for emergency visits.  Should you require assistance from our financial coordinator, please call the office and ask to speak to Carla to make arrangements.
  • We ask that you wear a mask when coming into to the office and immediately after the appointment.
  • When you arrive for your scheduled orthodontic appointment, please call us from your vehicle. Our office number is (403) 380-4999.
  • Once the chair you are scheduled to be seen in is available and disinfected, we will ask you to come up for your appointment.
  • If we are still seeing the previous patient or are currently disinfecting the treatment area, we will ask that you kindly wait in the vehicle. We will promptly call or text you to come up as soon as possible.
  • Prior to entering the office, you will be greeted by a staff member to complete a wellness screen and have your temperature taken.

Please note- if your temperature is elevated and/or you do not meet our wellness screening requirements, we will not be able to be see you for your orthodontic treatment. We will refer you to call 811 for further instruction.

  • Upon successful completion of the wellness screening, we will ask you to sanitize your hands, and we will open the office door for you.
  • When you enter the office, you will be immediately greeted and walked back by your dental assistant.
  • When in the office, please be mindful of other patients and continue physical distancing and hand hygiene precautions.
  • After your appointment is over, we ask that you leave the office immediately and call us to schedule the next appointment.  Please do not stop at the front desk.

Additional Policies:

The following are policies that we have put in place based on recommendations by the Canadian Association of Orthodontists.  Please abide by these policies until further notice by our office.

  • We ask that patients over 10 years of age come up to the office unaccompanied.  Should you have questions or concerns about your child’s orthodontic treatment, please call and let us know BEFORE the appointment. We will have one of Dr. Gibb’s dental assistants get in touch with you.
  • We currently cannot offer access to the brushing station area, waiting room, or public washroom.
  • Please do not touch any surfaces in the office.  If we are having you touch your mouth (ie: placing elastics, trying in retainers, etc.) we will have you sanitize your hands before and after.
  • Please follow all guidelines within the office such as taped off areas or floor markers.
  • For the time being, our Ortho Rewards program is temporarily suspended.

Your Safety:

At Gibb Orthodontics, we always follow strict infection prevention and control measures for the safety of our patients and staff.  The following are ADDITIONAL precautions that we must take at this time.

  • Procedures that create aerosols require extra safety measures.  You will see Dr. Gibb and his assistant dress in N95 masks, gowns, face shields, shoe covers and gloves prior to some procedures (ie: when you get your braces off).
  • Procedures that create aerosols will also be seen in specific treatment areas to avoid contact with other patients.
  • Our staff are screened every morning to ensure they are well and fit to see patients.
  • In addition to our usual cleaning and disinfecting routines, areas of high traffic will be wiped down frequently and all clinical and administrative staff will practice social distancing (unless they are completing treatment) and frequent hand hygiene.
  • We will have parents of accompanied patients (under 10 years old) wear a mask in the office.

Please do not be alarmed and understand that these are precautions we must take.  We want to be transparent with our patients so that you feel confident in continuing to trust us with your treatment.  Should you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call the office. We are thrilled to continue to provide quality care to our patients, and thank you in advance for your understanding.
